Panorama Monopoli: 70 Italian Galleries Take Over the Puglian City

festival-fair · 2026-04-27

The second iteration of Panorama, overseen by Vincenzo de Bellis and organized by the Italics consortium comprising 70 Italian galleries, occurred in Monopoli from September 1 to 4, 2022. This initiative showcased installations tailored to specific locations and fostered interactions between historical and contemporary art within churches, public spaces, and palaces. Noteworthy pieces included Mario Merz's 'La casa abbandonata' (1977-1983) alongside Stefano Arienti's 'Santi in giardino' (2022) at San Salvatore; Matteo Fato's work in a chapel; and Alessandro Piangiamore's 'Il cacciatore di polvere' (2018-2022) at San Martino. Additionally, Cesare Fracanzano's 'La famiglia del satiro' (1645-50) was displayed with Michelangelo Pistoletto's 'Prost' (2008) in SS. Giuseppe e Anna. Other significant contributions were Luzie Meyer's 'A Trap, a Miracle' (2022) and Marisa Merz's 'Untitled' alongside Lorenzo Lippi's 'Madonna col bambino e San Giovannino' (1606-55). The event was acclaimed for its unique site-specific focus, opening previously inaccessible churches and palaces.
