Panetteria Atomica: New Art Space Opens in a Former Bakery in Rome

On October 21, 2021, Panetteria Atomica, a new autonomous art space dedicated to artistic experimentation, opens in a former bakery at Vicolo San Celso in Rome. The space is conceived by GB Group (Giordano Boetti and Leonardo Gualco) together with curators Arturo Passacantando and Carla Ciffoni. The inaugural exhibition, "A glimmer in Neptune's eyes," features interdisciplinary artist Piero Passacantando, whose work spans painting, music, cooking, fermentation, and public art. Panetteria Atomica is not a gallery but a fluid, hybrid space for exhibitions, performances, workshops, and reading groups, aiming to break free from the conventional art market. The venue is located in the smallest house in Italy (10 square meters), currently used as a holiday home. GB Group, founded in London in 2015, focuses on participatory performances; their recent project "Bronzini" involved artists LU.PA (Lulù Nuti and Pamela Pintus) and Pietro Ruffo. Arturo Passacantando co-founded The Orange Garden in 2016, a nomadic gallery that has staged exhibitions across Europe, including a 23-day durational performance by artist Agnes in an abandoned sports center in London. Carla Ciffoni is an Argentine creative, photographer, and model whose practice has evolved into curation, directing, and production. The space aims to foster diversity and a "calm chaos" in Rome, evolving dynamically with each project.
