Panasonic has introduced its inaugural 40mm lens, the Lumix S 40mm f/2, which is priced at $400 and weighs five ounces (144 grams). Tailored for the Panasonic S9 camera, this lens boasts a 62mm filter diameter, an AF/MF switch, a customizable function button, and a manual focus ring. It is designed with splash resistance and dust sealing, ensuring quick focusing thanks to a stepping motor, while also providing good flare resistance and sharp performance at f/2. However, it does exhibit noticeable longitudinal chromatic aberrations and onion-ring bokeh due to its seven-bladed aperture. With minimal focus breathing, it is an excellent choice for videographers. Other options include the Lumix S 35mm f/1.8 and the TTArtisan 40mm f/2.
