Pan Napoli closes for renovation, reopens as Museo dell'Immagine in 2025

cultural-heritage · 2026-04-27

The Pan – Palazzo delle Arti Napoli, housed in the 18th-century Palazzo Roccella on Via dei Mille since 2005, will close in March 2024 for a €2 million renovation funded by PNRR, POC Metro, and POC Regione Campania. The work, expected to finish in summer 2025, will transform the space into the Museo dell'Immagine, a new museum dedicated to visual arts including photography, cinema, digital art, sculpture, and painting, in dialogue with new media, as part of the Napoli Contemporanea project. On March 6, a new Venus by Michelangelo Pistoletto will be inaugurated at Piazza del Municipio, and a collective project by Marinella Senatore is planned for July. The new museum, designed by architect Giovanni Francesco Fascino, aims to reconnect with the city and public, offering immersive exhibitions, an archive, and spaces conceived as theatrical stages. Programming will extend to the Casina Pompeiana, a new center for contemporary performativity focused on workshops and collective practices. During renovation, the museum goes digital with MetaPan, a virtual space in the metaverse curated by Maria Grazia Mattei (founder of MEET) and Valentino Catricalà, with architect Giuliano Bora designing the immersive platform. MetaPan will host digital works by Chiara Passa, Davide Quayola, Auriea Harvey, and Bianco – Valente, and include a conference room for masterclasses with experts like Derrick de Kerckhove, Ruggero Eugeni, Elisabetta Modena, Andrea Pinotti, and Francesco Spampinato.
