Pamela Diamante at Malta Biennale: Interview with the Italian Artist
Italian artist Pamela Diamante (born 1985 in Bari) is one of five Italian artists selected for the main exhibition of the Malta Biennale, curated by Rosa Martínez (the first woman to co-curate the Venice Biennale in 2005). The biennale, titled CLEAN | CLEAR | CUT, runs from March 11–13, 2026 (preview) to May 29, 2026. Diamante presents her ongoing work "Estetica dell'apocalisse" (started in 2018), which juxtaposes photos of contemporary artworks with images of natural and technological disasters, creating visual correspondences that question art's role in catastrophe. The work is organized alphabetically and has reached the letter 'p' with a piece referencing Pino Pascali. Diamante, a former corporal major in the Italian Army, explores themes of capitalism, exploitation, and community empowerment. Her installation "Le invisibili. Esistenze radicali" at the Pinacoteca Metropolitana di Bari, winner of a PAC grant from the Italian Ministry of Culture, features sixteen iron rods with ceramic hoes symbolizing exploited female farmworkers. She also creates ceramic "mangiatrici di terra" with propellers emerging from mouths. Upcoming: a solo installation "Welcome Apocalypse" at Palazzo Lucarini in Trevi, curated by Franko B. Diamante emphasizes that her works are "postazioni per il pensiero" (stations for thought) that pose questions without answers, and she values the experiential component and collective creation.
