Paltz Biënnale 2026: Outdoor Art on a Hidden Estate in Soest

festival-fair · 2026-05-13

The sixth edition of the Paltz Biënnale is held on Landgoed De Paltz, a 19th-century estate on the Utrechtse Heuvelrug normally closed to the public. Curators Meria Bakker and Wouter Blom invited eight artists to create new works responding to the site's nature, history, and hidden stories. Works include Katharina Busl's 'Nothing Up My Sleeve'—a theater-like structure with camouflage-printed agricultural plastic curtains referencing nearby arable farming and Soesterberg airbase; Bouke Groen's 'Relate'—sonic poles translating tree distances into frequencies; Krystel Geerts' 'Without a Title'—a spiral staircase resembling a giant elfin saddle; KCCM's (Cathelijne Montens and Krijn Christiaansen) wildlife cameras and observation posts; Heleen Blanken's moonlander-like installation that changes with rain and insect colonization; Agata Siwek's self-made wolf costume for performing domestic tasks; Suat Ögüt's 'Anatomy of Belonging'—a mosaic under tree roots inspired by a news report of a Byzantine mosaic under a Palestinian orchard, linking to themes of rootedness, migration, and the Middle East; and Janneke Kornet's 'Boerens en buitens'—photographs of historical dishes on ceramic plates shaped like land parcels, printed on wool from estate sheep, including a speculative 2050 dish. The biennale runs in May 2026.
