Paloma Bosquê Awarded 2017 Nigel Greenwood Art Prize with Scottish Residency

award · 2026-04-20

Paloma Bosquê, an artist from São Paulo, has been awarded the 2017 Nigel Greenwood Art Prize. This accolade comes with a £5,000 honorarium and a three-month residency in a cottage and studio in the Scottish Borders. A panel of four judges—Helen Legg from Spike Island in Bristol, curator Tamsin Dillon, artist Yuko Shiraishi, and Nicola Lees of New York's 80WSE Gallery—selected Bosquê from a shortlist that included Rachel Adams from Glasgow, Jacqueline Bebb from Chester, Augustas Serapinas from Vilnius, and Edinburgh's Hannah Tuulikki. Each nominee was put forward by an anonymous selector, with Bosquê being nominated by Oliver Basciano, ArtReview's international editor. Currently, she has a solo exhibition at Pavilhão Preto in Lisbon and will take part in the Coimbra Biennial this November. The prize commemorates the influential gallerist Nigel Greenwood and is overseen by his estate. Past recipients include Ben Rivers and Katie Schwab.
