Paloma Bau and Ausiàs Pérez design shared Valencia office inspired by Tokyo

architecture-design · 2026-05-26

Architect Paloma Bau and creative director Ausiàs Pérez have completed Sornells 21, their shared office in Valencia's Ruzafa neighbourhood, drawing on Japanese architecture. The 170-square-metre U-shaped space has dual street access, with Bau's studio on one side and Pérez's T.O.T Studio on the other, connected by a large communal kitchen. White ceramic tiles at the entrance evoke Tokyo's tiled facades and pavements. The kitchen centres on a 7.2-metre-long table of black San Vicente stone with steel and concrete block supports. A bespoke luminaire inspired by noren curtains illuminates the bar. A hidden stair leads to a meeting room with pink and blue accents, shower-head lights, and a false skylight, referencing the playful spirit of traditional onsen. Tatami-like benches line the office areas. The space also hosts events and exhibitions.
