Palma + TO Win MAC Panamá International Design Competition

The Museo de Arte Contemporáneo de Panamá (MAC Panamá) has announced the winning proposal for its new headquarters, designed by Palma + TO. The international competition drew 363 entries from 56 countries, with Mexico contributing the most teams. The jury, comprising David Basulto, José Esparza Chong Cuy, Martha Thorne, Antonio Murzi, Graciela Quelquejeu de Chapman, Ramón Zafrani, and Annamaria Zampogna, selected five finalists: Consorcio UTM Ateliers, Lanza Atelier, Productora, Palma + TO, and Yektajo Architects. The winning design was praised for integrating architecture, public space, and cultural experience, and for its responsiveness to Panama's identity, climate, and landscape. The new museum will be located in San Francisco, a strategic district poised to become a cultural hub. The competition was coordinated by Ginnette Gotti. The project now moves to technical development, aiming to enhance conservation, exhibition, education, and public programming, reinforcing MAC Panamá's regional and international cultural role.
