Palermo's Summer Art Scene: Three Shows Beyond Manifesta

Palermo, as 2018 Italian Capital of Culture and host of Manifesta 12 (through November 4), presents three notable exhibitions this summer. At Villa Zito, 'Party of Life' celebrates Keith Haring on the 60th anniversary of his birth, running until September 16. The show features works from public and private collections, highlighting Haring's iconic visual alphabet of stylized figures, dogs, TVs, and radios. At Casa Florio – I Quattro Pizzi, Domenico Pellegrino's installation 'Il Faro del Pellegrino' illuminates a tower until November 30, inspired by the neo-Gothic palace's ceiling decorations. The work is part of the Florio family's revival efforts by heirs Chico Paladino Florio and Ana Paula Mancino. The Vittorio Rappa Project Room presents 'Mistica,' a tri-personal exhibition with artists Grazia Inserillo, Matilde Solbiati, and Roberta Mazzola, running until September 27. This is the third show in the project room's program, which has become a reference point for contemporary art in Palermo since opening in May 2018, hosting ten Italian and international artists in the historic Palazzo Raffadali.
