Palermo's street art as urban tattoos in new book by Diego Mantoan

The book titled 'Palermo sulla pelle della città' (Edifir Edizioni Firenze, 2025), edited by Diego Mantoan, explores the city of Palermo through the lens of street art and murals, likening them to urban tattoos that embody themes of love, conflict, memory, and community. Mantoan's work merges a lyrical title with a methodical approach, delving into public art, Nuovo muralismo, and Street art. A significant case highlighted is the mural of a cat by Erna Jones on Palazzo Alliata di Villa Franca, which was erased for a Netflix adaptation of 'Il Gattopardo'. This initiative, backed by the European Commission's NextGenerationEU, spanned two years of research at the University of Palermo, incorporating insights from multiple fields. The book, featuring around seventy images by Giovanni Scotti, is priced at €30.00 and consists of 236 pages, with ISBN 978-88-9280-254-4.
