Palermo's Mafia History Through 19 Photographers at Permanent Exhibition
A new permanent exhibition named 'Quelli de L’ORA: Cronache fotografiche di un assalto a Palermo dal 1974' has been launched at the Centro Internazionale di Fotografia, located in the Cantieri Culturali della Zisa in Palermo. This showcase features the work of 19 photographers who captured the essence of the city from 1974 until 1992, the year L'Ora, the newspaper, stopped its publication. Among the featured photographers are Letizia Battaglia, Vittorio Aurino, and Ernesto Battaglia, among others. The collection includes images of crime scenes, trials, funerals, and cultural events, all reflecting the mafia's deep-rooted impact. Letizia Battaglia, the artistic director, referred to the archive as an unmatched record of Palermo's struggles, highlighting the photographs as a stark reminder of the city's history. The exhibition aims to grow by incorporating accounts from additional L'Ora photographers, who trained numerous anti-mafia journalists over three generations.
