Palermo's Caffè Internazionale Summer School 2019 Open Call
The fourth edition of the Summer School of Contemporary Art, originally hosted by the now-closed Caffè Internazionale in Palermo, will take place at Bottega 1 in the Cantieri Culturali della Zisa. Founded in 2015 by artist Stefania Galegati and her husband Darrell Shines, the Caffè was a multicultural hub that hosted exhibitions, talks, and concerts until 2018. The Summer School, curated by Daria Filardo, Stefania Galegati Shines, and Davide Ricco, continues despite the café's closure. This year's theme is Counter/Production, described as "an artistic counter-production device for dismantling and poetically re-proposing reality in artistic language." Three faculty members will lead the program: Valentina Bonizzi and Driant Zeneli from Tirana will co-teach the first week, and Helen Cammock from London, winner of the 2018 Max Mara Prize, will teach the second. The open call has no age, gender, or origin restrictions. Applicants must submit a motivation letter and recent work samples in PDF by March 31, 2019 (midnight UTC+1). The participation fee is €200. Final selections will be announced by April 18, 2019. Previous editions attracted participants from South Korea, France, Turkey, and England.
