Palazzo Venezia reopens main entrance and restores Sala d'Ercole with public access

cultural-heritage · 2026-05-05

Edith Gabrielli, the superintendent, is spearheading a restoration initiative at Palazzo Venezia in Rome, which is home to a National Museum and the National Institute and Library of Archaeology and Art History. The palace's garden, often neglected, has been revitalized in the early humanism style and is now a venue for events. During a press conference for the 10th Biennale dell'Antiquariato, taking place from September 29 to October 3, Gabrielli revealed that the main entrance on Piazza Venezia will be reopened. A project in the Sala d'Ercole is focused on restoring the original colors of frescoes commissioned by Pope Paul II Barbo, which were previously compromised. Guided public tours of the restoration site will commence in September by reservation.
