Palazzo Venezia in Rome Unveils New Permanent Display from Its Storied Deposits

cultural-heritage · 2026-04-27

On April 28, 2022, the unveiling of a new permanent exhibition took place at Palazzo Venezia in Rome, led by Italian Culture Minister Dario Franceschini and Edith Gabrielli, the director of the VIVE institute. Curated by Gabrielli and crafted by architect Michele De Lucchi, this initiative fills previously vacant spaces with an array of items from the Palazzetto Venezia's collections, such as silver liturgical artifacts, ivories, bronzes, ceramics, and paintings. Notable pieces include medieval goldsmith creations, a 15th-century Italian stocco, and Beato Angelico's Volto di Cristo. The design incorporates the Appartamento of future Pope Paul II, aiming to enrich the museum landscape of Rome. Since April 1, 2022, the site has attracted 395,000 visitors, with a new cultural program set for late 2022.
