Palazzo Vendramin Grimani Opens as New Cultural Hub in Venice
After two years of restoration, Palazzo Vendramin Grimani opens to the public as a new cultural landmark in Venice, announced by the Fondazione dell’Albero d’Oro. The palace, once home to the noble Grimani family, will feature paintings from the Grimani dell’Albero d’Oro collection, works from private collections, and commissioned photographs by Patrick Tourneboeuf documenting the building's transformation. The opening coincides with Venice’s 1600th anniversary celebrations. The exhibition route includes Domenico Tintoretto’s 'Ritratto di Andrea Contarini', Sebastiano Ricci’s 'Imeneo', and Francesco Montemezzano’s 'Ritratto di Maria Dolfin', alongside contemporary watercolors by Yvan Salomone. The ground floor hosts Ugo Carmeni’s photographic project 'Invisibilia', a macro-scale reinterpretation of decorative elements from the 16th-century facade. The Fondazione dell’Albero d’Oro, named after the Grimani branch that produced Doge Pietro (1741–1752), aims to reassemble dispersed art collections. The palace will offer scholarships, residencies, workshops, concerts, and multidisciplinary projects, focusing on Venice’s historical ties with the world and the influence of foreigners in the city. Free guided visits are available from May 24 to June 6, 2021; from June 7, visits are by reservation Thursday to Sunday.
