Palazzo Strozzi's 'Let's Get Digital' Explains NFTs Through Art

From May 18 to July 31, 2022, Palazzo Strozzi in Florence presents 'Let's Get Digital: NFT e nuove realtà dell'arte digitale', an exhibition curated by director Arturo Galansino and MoCDA director Serena Tabacchi. The show opens with Refik Anadol's site-specific 'Machine Hallucinations – Renaissance Dreams' in the courtyard, featuring a megascreen displaying a perpetual wave of Renaissance-inspired pixels. Six leading digital artists are featured: Beeple (Mike Winkelmann) with his 'Everydays' series including a GIGACHAD piece animated with Elon Musk's head walking a Doge; Daniel Arsham's 'Eroding and Reforming Best of Rome (One Year)'; Krista Kim's Mars house, the first NFT home; Anyma collective's robot women Eva 0 and Angel, which offer visitors a free POAP (Proof of Attendance Protocol) NFT; and Andrés Reisinger's three-channel video 'Arcadia' with poet Arch Hades and composer RAC. The exhibition uses keyword wall texts (NFT, blockchain, cryptoart, minting) to educate the public. Tabacchi explains that blockchain technology allows artists to certify digital works transparently, making art more accessible. Despite Palazzo Strozzi's thick walls blocking internet, Wi-Fi is provided. The exhibition is part of the 'Palazzo Strozzi Future Art' series, following JR's 'Alter Eva'.
