Palazzo Strozzi 2020: Jeff Koons and Tomás Saraceno Solo Shows

exhibition · 2026-05-04

Palazzo Strozzi in Florence has announced its 2020 exhibition program, featuring solo shows by Tomás Saraceno and Jeff Koons. The program breaks from the institution's previous pattern of pairing a historical survey with a contemporary exhibition. Instead, both shows will be monographic and focus on living artists from the Americas. Saraceno's exhibition, opening February 21, 2020, is described as his largest project in Italy, transforming the palazzo into a living organism connecting human and non-human elements. Koons' show, from September 2020 to January 2021, will trace his career from the 1970s, including early ready-mades and recent sculptures. The 2020 program follows the 2019 exhibition on Natalia Goncharova (September 28, 2019 – January 12, 2020), co-organized with Tate Modern and Ateneum Art Museum. Director Arturo Galansino emphasized that these shows position Palazzo Strozzi as an international cultural reference, promoting Florence and Tuscany as destinations for contemporary art. Currently on view until July 14, 2019, are the exhibition "Verrocchio, il Maestro di Leonardo" and the collaborative installation "Rede Social" by Brazilian collective Opavivará!, part of the "Beyond Performance" series curated by Alberto Salvadori.
