Palazzo Reale di Napoli opens new public spaces and museum

cultural-heritage · 2026-04-26

Palazzo Reale di Napoli has inaugurated new public spaces including the Belvedere terrace, the Museo della Fabbrica, a new ticket office, and a welcome area in the courtyard. The Belvedere, built in 1837 and never before open to the public, offers a unique view of the Gulf of Naples and will be included in guided tours from September. The Museo della Fabbrica presents a permanent exhibition on the palace's history through artworks, audiovisual installations, and 3D models, including restored 19th-century models by architects Antonio Niccolini and Gaetano Genovese. The renovation, led by architect Francesco Delizia under the direction of Almerinda Padricelli and executed by Modugno, took one and a half years and excluded the facade restored in 2016. Additionally, the exhibition "Quatto secoli di storia: la fabbrica di Palazzo Reale" curated by director Mario Epifani is on view in the Galleria del Genovese until September 3, featuring works from Neapolitan institutions such as Museo di San Martino, Museo di Capodimonte, Archivio di Stato di Napoli, Biblioteca Nazionale "Vittorio Emanuele III", and Reggia di Caserta. Director Mario Epifani stated the goal is to recover every trace of the palace's history and transform the Cortile d'Onore into an agora open to the city, making the palace a cultural hub alongside Teatro di San Carlo and Biblioteca Nazionale.
