Palazzo Pitti's Royal Apartments Reopen After Restoration, Adding to Uffizi's Expanded Offerings

cultural-heritage · 2026-04-26

On January 21, 2025, the Royal Apartments of Palazzo Pitti in Florence welcomed visitors again after being closed for five years and undergoing nine months of restoration work. Guided tours are offered daily from 10 am to 6 pm, with the final tour starting at 5 pm. The restoration process involved cleaning frescoes, stuccoes, and wood carvings, as well as uncovering parquet floors. The apartments reflect the artistic styles of the Medici, Lorraine, and Savoy families, with the Chapel preserving its original Medici design. This reopening comes on the heels of Uffizi Galleries director Simone Verde’s successes, such as the Vasari Corridor's reopening in December 2024 and the launch of the Museo della Moda e del Costume. Verde plans to dismantle a 60-meter crane in Piazzale dei Castellani by 2025.
