Palazzo Pitti Opens New Entrance, Streamlining Access and Improving Staff Conditions

The Palazzo Pitti in Florence has unveiled a new entrance for visitors, a change that director Simone Verde notes has been sought since the 1980s. This update moves the entry point, along with security and metal detection, from the traditional central door to the right-side door facing Piazza Pitti, adjacent to the ticket office. Visitors will now depart through the center door, effectively distinguishing between entrance and exit pathways. This adjustment enhances access management and offers staff a climate-controlled area for inspections. The initiative aims not only to improve visitor orientation but also to enhance employee comfort and restore the visibility of the historic spaces, particularly Bartolomeo Ammannati's architectural works. This entrance is part of a larger transformation at the grand ducal palace, which has been significantly evolving under Verde's leadership.
