Palazzo Madama in Turin Hosts Major Liberty Exhibition
A major exhibition titled 'Liberty. Torino Capitale' opens at Palazzo Madama in Turin from October 26, 2023 to June 10, 2024. Curated by Palazzo Madama and the Società degli Ingegneri e degli Architetti in Torino in collaboration with MondoMostre, the show features around 100 works that argue Turin's fundamental role in defining the Liberty style as a social, architectural, and artistic phenomenon. The exhibition aims to support Turin's entry into the Réseau Art Nouveau Network (RANN) in Brussels and its candidacy as a UNESCO World Heritage City for Liberty. It highlights over 500 masterpieces from the Belle Époque period distributed across the city, from workshops to Parco del Valentino. The show is organized into five sections examining society and culture from the second half of the 19th century to the early 20th century. Topics include the image of women through works by artists such as Boldini, Bistolfi, Corcos, and Canonica; the architectural transition to the Casa Moderna (inside a bow window of Palazzina Turbiglio); the elegance of period clothing, furnishings, and accessories under a chandelier from Officina Mazzucotelli; and the role of dance, exemplified by a fruit bowl vase by Leonardo Bistolfi. The exhibition also considers Liberty's manifestations in domestic, industrial, private, and urban contexts, driven by the revolutionary Esposizione Internazionale of 1902.
