Palazzo Grassi's Teatrino Opens with Two-Act Performance Exhibition Gestus
The Teatrino di Palazzo Grassi in Venice is set to unveil a new programming cycle titled Gestus, a two-part performative exhibition. The first segment, 'Rifare il corpo' (Remaking the Body), will be open from October 15 to November 24, 2021, while the second segment, 'Il montaggio delle azioni' (The Montage of Actions), is scheduled for December 2021 through January 2022. Curated by the Milan-based collective VideoSoundArt, Gestus showcases both Italian and international artists who delve into the concept of the body. This exhibition is structured as a cohesive theatrical experience, featuring video, sculpture, performance, and sound. Notable artists include Annamaria Ajmone, Ludovica Carbotta, and others. Bruno Racine, director of Palazzo Grassi – Punta della Dogana, emphasized that the format is tailored for the Teatrino, which architect Tadao Ando renovated. The initiative also seeks to redefine audience engagement, incorporating high school students as guides, and is produced in partnership with VideoSoundArt.
