Palazzo Grassi and Punta della Dogana Announce 2020 Program with Cartier-Bresson, Nabil, and Group Show

institutional · 2026-04-27

Martin Bethenod, director of Palazzo Grassi and Punta della Dogana in Venice, outlined the institutions' 2020 program in an interview. Palazzo Grassi will host two photography exhibitions: "Henri Cartier-Bresson: Le Grand Jeu" (co-organized with the Bibliothèque nationale de France and Fondation Henri Cartier-Bresson, coordinated by Matthieu Humery) and "Youssef Nabil. Once Upon a Dream" (curated by Humery and Jean-Jacques Aillagon). The Cartier-Bresson show features perspectives from Annie Leibovitz, Javier Cercas, Wim Wenders, François Pinault, and Sylvie Aubenas on the photographer's Master Collection of 385 prints. At Punta della Dogana, the group exhibition "Untitled 2020" (curated by Caroline Bourgeois, Muna El Fituri, and artist Thomas Hauseago) includes over 60 artists from the Pinault Collection and other international loans, with a reconstruction of Hauseago's studio and library as its centerpiece. The Teatrino di Palazzo Grassi will host Set Up, a two-day music and performing arts event in February. Bethenod highlighted the success of 2019's programs, including over 100 free events at the Teatrino, and the "Altri Sguardi" mediation project for asylum seekers. He emphasized accessibility and the museum's role as a platform for dialogue.
