Palazzo Dogana Museum in Foggia Honors Joseph Beuys

The Galleria d'arte moderna in Palazzo Dogana, Foggia, inaugurated in May 2003, houses a dual collection: works by local artists from the late 19th century onward, and a section dedicated to Joseph Beuys. Beuys served in the Luftwaffe in Foggia during WWII and maintained ties to the city, evidenced by multiples produced by Salento artist-collector Corrado Lorenzo in the 1970s. The Beuys section includes images and an artist's book published by Lucrezia De Domizio Durini documenting his Italian projects in Bolognano. The museum, part of the Polo biblio-museale di Foggia directed by Gabriella Berardi and coordinated by Luigi De Luca, aims to eventually host a permanent documentation space on Beuys' relationship with Italy, especially Puglia. The collection features works by Domenico Caldara, Alfredo Petrucci, Dario Damato, Giovanni Albanese, Gerardo Gerardi, Andrea Pazienza, Italo-German Alfredo Bortoluzzi, Colombians Fernando Botero and Cesare Siviglia, Francesco Saverio Altamura (1822-1897), and Giuseppe Ar (1898-1956).
