Palazzo Diedo Opens in Venice with Janus Exhibition

exhibition · 2026-04-26

On April 20, 2024, Palazzo Diedo, an 18th-century structure crafted by Andrea Tirali in Venice's Cannaregio area, will be accessible to the public during the 60th Venice Biennale. Nicolas Berggruen, the founder of the Berggruen Institute, purchased the palace in 2022, and it has since undergone extensive restoration by Berggruen Arts & Culture. The opening exhibition, titled Janus, will be curated by Mario Codognato and Adriana Rispoli and will showcase 11 site-specific pieces from artists including Urs Fischer, Piero Golia, and Carsten Höller. The venue will also facilitate artist residencies and create commissions for a permanent collection. Additionally, a solo exhibition by Rhea Dillon and a Polaroid Foundation project with photographer John Reuter will debut alongside Janus. Berggruen's cultural initiatives in Venice encompass Casa dei Tre Oci and Palazzo Malipiero, the latter acquired in 2023 for private purposes.
