Palazzo delle Esposizioni Reconstructs Six Historic Rome Exhibitions

Palazzo delle Esposizioni in Rome presents 'Mostra di mostre', an exhibition curated by Daniela Lancioni with Paola Bonani, reconstructing six private gallery shows from the 1950s to the 2000s. Each of the six rooms on the first floor is dedicated to a single artist's solo exhibition, aiming to evoke the intellectual and artistic atmosphere of Rome over six decades. The show begins with Titina Maselli's 1955 exhibition at Galleria La Tartaruga, featuring fourteen dark, expressionist paintings created while she worked in New York. A more compelling section covers the 1960s with Giulio Paolini's 1964 solo show at Galleria La Salita, reassembled by the artist himself, showcasing his formal and conceptual rigor. Luciano Fabro's 1971 intervention at Incontri Internazionali d'Arte is also reconstructed, including works like 'Concetto spaziale d’après Watteau' and 'Piedi'. The 1980s are represented by Carlo Maria Mariani's 'La costellazione del Leone' at Galleria Sperone (1981), a large painting referencing Mengs and Raphael, featuring figures like Achille Bonito Oliva and Sandro Chia. For the 1990s, Jan Vercruysse's 'Tombeaux' at Galleria Pieroni (1990) is presented with meticulous attention to his surrealist-inspired work. The final section, Myriam Laplante's 'Elisir' at Fondazione Volume! (2004), is deemed less structured. An homage to photographer Sergio Pucci, who documented the Roman art scene since the 1950s, concludes the exhibition.
