Palazzo Comi: the museum dedicated to the inventor of artist residencies

cultural-heritage · 2026-04-27

Located in the Salento area close to Santa Maria di Leuca, Palazzo Comi in Lucugnano served as the residence of poet Girolamo Comi. After spending several years overseas, Comi returned in the late 1940s and established the Accademia Salentina on January 3, 1948, alongside writers Oreste Macrì, Michele Pierri, Maria Corti, and artists Vincenzo Ciardo and Ferruccio Ferrazzi. They launched a magazine called 'L'Albero', which showcased notable figures in Italian culture. Prior to Comi's passing in 1968, the palace was acquired by the Province of Lecce. Luigi De Luca emphasizes the Accademia's national influence, while Loredana Capone points out Comi's contributions to artist residencies. A group of young cultural operators is now striving to enhance community access to the site.
