Palazzo Collicola in Spoleto Hosts Four Concurrent Exhibitions
Palazzo Collicola in Spoleto presents a seasonal cycle of exhibitions running until May 22, 2016. Artistic director Gianluca Marziani has curated four shows across the palace. On the upper floor, Sergio Russo, a late-blooming artist from Rome who refined his creativity as a hairdresser to stars in 1970s Rome, displays "Rilievi biologici." His work uses hardware materials like washers, nails, chains, bolts, and colored glass fragments, arranged harmoniously with oil paint to create surfaces that play with color, form, and shadow. The adjacent exhibition "Mitologie di un eterno presente" features Natino Chirico (born Reggio Calabria, 1953), whose evolution from acidic autobiographical paintings of the 1970s to saturated acrylics is traced. His works incorporate silhouettes of recognized figures, turning Chaplin and Fellini into modern archetypes. Mauro Iori's "Metabolismi da camera" occupies the dehors and adjacent rooms, presenting sequences of controlled chaos from his life as an art professor at the Accademia di Roma. Personal objects and authorial citations reflect a "here and now" matured through aesthetic and human experiences. The group show "Spoleto contemporanea," installed in the noble floor apartment since November, maps over fifty emerging signatures from the Umbrian city, including Carlo Maria Mariani and Myriam Laplante, demonstrating that the city is rich in energies, ideas, and visions.
