Palazzo Butera in Palermo to Open as Contemporary Art Museum in 2019

In January 2019, Palazzo Butera, an 18th-century structure located in Palermo, will debut as a contemporary art museum showcasing the Francesca & Massimo Valsecchi Collection. Massimo Valsecchi acquired the palace in 2016, and it has since undergone a restoration lasting two and a half years, directed by Marco Giammona, Giovanni Cappelletti, and Tomaso Garigliano. This initiative aims to promote social revitalization in the Kalsa district and surrounding areas. The museum’s ground floor will feature temporary exhibitions, while the noble floor will function as the Valsecchi residence with artistic interventions. The second floor will exhibit both ancient and contemporary artworks. Additionally, the museum will provide research facilities and accommodations for visiting scholars. The Mediterranean Gateway Palermo foundation has been created to support urban renewal efforts.
