Palazzo Barberini unveils hidden landscape masterpieces from storage
At Palazzo Barberini in Rome, the exhibition titled 'Di natura e d’invenzione. Paesaggi, vedute e capricci dai depositi' is currently on display. Curated by Luigi Gallo, Paola Nicita, and Yuri Primarosa, it features 14 landscape artworks sourced from the museum's storerooms, dating back to the 17th and 18th centuries. Artists represented include Nicolas Poussin, Gaspard Dughet, and François Boucher, among others. Located in the Sala dei Paesaggi on the piano nobile, the palace was built between 1625 and 1633 for Francesco and Taddeo Barberini, designed by Carlo Maderno, Francesco Borromini, and Gian Lorenzo Bernini. Luigi Gallo, who will serve as interim director until January 15, 2024, noted that the exhibition highlights Italian museum deposits, selecting spring landscapes for the festive season. Noteworthy is Pietro da Cortona's depiction of the Villa di Castelfusano, one of the earliest representations of a specific site. The exhibition is located at Palazzo Barberini, via Quattro Fontane, Rome.
