institutional · 2026-05-05

Flaminia Gennari Santori, director of the Gallerie Nazionali d'Arte Antica di Roma, announced a new strategic relaunch for Palazzo Barberini and Galleria Corsini. The museums became autonomous in July 2015 under the MIBACT reform. The plan includes a modern reinterpretation of collections, improved visitor accessibility, enhanced national and international presence, a new visual identity and website, and expanded social media channels. The announcement also previewed upcoming exhibitions dedicated to Pompeo Batoni, Ribera, Stomer, and Mattia Preti. The extraordinary opening of Palazzo Barberini featured masterpieces such as Filippo Lippi's Annunciation, Raphael's La Fornarina, Caravaggio's Judith and Holofernes, Pietro da Cortona's fresco Triumph of Divine Providence, and Bernini's bust of Urban VIII.
