Palazzina Trombini in Melegnano reopens with major art exhibition

exhibition · 2026-04-27

The Palazzina Trombini, a historic building in Melegnano that had been abandoned for years, has been revived as a cultural space through an urban regeneration project by the city administration, in collaboration with the Castello Mediceo. Originally built in the 19th century as a kindergarten for workers' children by the Trombini family, owners of a linen and hemp factory, the building later served as a nursery until a few years ago. The exhibition "L'arte rivela il segreto delle cose. Mappe, mitologie, volti" runs from January 20 to March 3, 2024, featuring works by 20th-century masters such as Wassily Kandinsky and Pablo Picasso from a private collection, as well as Art Brut artist Carlo Zinelli and contemporary artist Simone Pellegrini. Curated by Giorgio Bedoni, a psychiatrist and professor at the Accademia di Belle Arti di Brera, the show includes 70 works by 30 artists organized by theme, with explanatory panels. Four accompanying events will intertwine history, music, art, and poetry. The initiative aims to boost culture in Melegnano, according to Deputy Mayor and Culture Councillor Simone Passerini. The building's industrial history traces back to the Trombini company founded in 1885, later acquired by Linificio e Canapificio Nazionale in 1920, which closed in 1930 due to the American recession, then taken over by G. B. Izar in 1941, merged into Broggi Izar in 1953, relocated in 1993, and finally closed in 1995.
