Palais de Tokyo Reopens with Tripled Space and New Director Jean de Loisy
On April 12-13, 2012, the Palais de Tokyo in Paris will celebrate its reopening following renovations that have increased its exhibition area from 8,000 to 22,000 square meters. Jean de Loisy, who took on the role of president in June 2011, has proposed a program that focuses on interdisciplinary and process-oriented methods. The architects behind the expansion, Anne Lacaton and Jean-Philippe Vassal, drew inspiration from Cedric Price's Fun Palace. A 30-hour event featuring concerts and installations will mark the reopening. The inaugural exhibition, "Les Détours de l'imaginaire," curated by Julien Fronsacq, will reference notable figures such as Guy Debord and Jean-Paul Sartre. De Loisy aims to highlight both established and emerging artists, commission permanent installations, and partner with the Louvre. The Triennale, titled "Intense Proximité," is set to run from April 20 to August 26.
