Palais de Tokyo hosts nude art tour for naturists

other · 2026-05-04

Around 160 naturists visited the Palais de Tokyo in Paris on May 5-6, 2018, for a guided tour completely naked, organized in collaboration with the Paris Naturist Association. The museum allowed the visit outside regular hours to avoid disturbing other visitors. The initiative sparked national debate in France, where over 2.5 million people practice naturism, including 88,000 in Paris alone. Museum director stated the event was not a provocation but a step forward, and plans to repeat it due to high demand. The tour sold out within hours. Julien Claude-Penegry, head of communications for the Paris Naturist Association, called it "a step forward in one of the world's cultural capitals." Critics labeled the event offensive and scandalous. This follows a successful nude area trial at Bois de Vincennes park in 2017, set to be repeated in summer 2018.
