Palais de Tokyo hosts conversation on the artist's metaphysical role

other · 2026-04-23

On December 17, 2012, at 7 PM, the Palais de Tokyo in Paris will host a conversation titled "Artistes, où êtes-vous ?" as part of the Atelier des Mutations en Cours program coordinated by Donatien Grau. The event will address the increasing number of people identifying as artists and whether the metaphysical content assigned to artists since the Romantic era can be preserved. Philosopher Paul Audi, author of "Discours sur la légitimation actuelle de l'artiste" (Encre Marine, 2012), and writer-director Olivier Py, author of "Cultivez votre tempête" (Actes Sud, 2012) and future director of the Festival d'Avignon from 2014, will dialogue with Palais de Tokyo president Jean de Loisy. Audi's work explores ethics and aesthetics, including "Jubilations" (Christian Bourgois, 2009) and "Créer" (Verdier, 2010). De Loisy, a major French curator, organized exhibitions for Anish Kapoor at the Royal Academy in London (2009) and Paris (2011, Monumenta), Jean-Jacques Lebel (2009), and "Traces du sacré" at Centre Pompidou (2008). Py directed the Odéon-Théâtre de l'Europe from 2007 to 2012.
