Palais de Tokyo exhibition reexamines AIDS narratives through intergenerational artistic dialogues.

exhibition · 2026-04-20

The exhibition titled 'Exposé·es,' curated by François Piron, is being held at Palais de Tokyo in Paris from 17 February to 15 May, reinterpreting AIDS as a persistent crisis. Drawing from Elisabeth Lebovici's 2017 publication 'Ce que le sida m’a fait,' the exhibition transitions from individual narratives to broader institutional viewpoints. A striking yellow banner by Gregg Bordowitz proclaims, 'The AIDS crisis is still beginning.' It includes interactions between both living and deceased artists, featuring Jesse Darling's installation alongside works by Felix Gonzalez-Torres and Moyra Davey's 'Visitor' (2022), inspired by Hervé Guibert. Additionally, video pieces such as Barbara Hammer's 'Snow Job' (1986) and Lionel Soukaz's 'RV, mon ami' (1994) are presented, along with works by David Wojnarowicz, Derek Jarman, and Nan Goldin, though the numerous video installations hinder moments of quiet contemplation.
