exhibition · 2026-05-04

The Palais de Tokyo in Paris has unveiled its 2019 season, featuring six solo exhibitions by artists from diverse backgrounds and generations. Theaster Gates will present his first solo show in France, "Amalgam," exploring social themes such as migration and interracial relations, inspired by the history of Malaga Island in Maine. Angelica Mesiti, representing Australia at the 59th Venice Biennale, will debut in a French institution with video installations from 2012-2017, incorporating sign language choirs and Morse code. Julien Creuzet, a French video-maker and poet, will examine cultural heritage and minority histories through a poem-titled exhibition. Louis-Cyprien Rials, winner of the SAM Prize, will showcase a film and objects created with Ramon Film Productions in Uganda. Julius von Bismarck, the first artist-in-residence at CERN in 2012, will present "Die Mimik der Thetys," inspired by the mythological sea goddess Thetis. Franck Scurti will reflect on Paul Gauguin's "The Yellow Christ" using found objects in "More is Less." The season runs at the institution located at 13 Avenue du Président Wilson.
