Paiz Art Biennial Goes Beyond Borders, Alternative Havana Biennial Emerges

On August 16, 2018, the 21st Paiz Art Biennial is set to commence in Guatemala, under the curation of Gerardo Mosquera, Maya Juracán, Laura A. L. Wellen, and Esperanza de León. Entitled "Más Allá" (Beyond), the event focuses on inclusivity and decentralization, reaching various locations throughout the nation while partnering with artist-led spaces and museums. Featured artists include both Guatemalan talents and international names such as Gervasio Sánchez, Xu Zhen, and Tania Bruguera. Additionally, the initiative encompasses collaborations in Mexico City and Bogotá, along with a residency for Sandra Monterroso in Havana. This occurs alongside the delay of the 2018 Havana Biennial to 2019, prompting the alternative #00 Bienal de la Habana from May 5–15, 2018, which has a crowdfunding goal of $20,000.
