Painting Competition in Tuscany Offers Apartment as Prize

cultural-heritage · 2026-04-26

In the Pisa province, the town of Castelnuovo Val di Cecina has initiated the 'Imago in Villa' painting contest, with an apartment in its historic center as the top award. Participants must present trompe-l'œil sketches by April 30, 2024. From July 20 to August 20, 2024, fifteen selected finalists will paint murals on 16 buildings. The judging panel, led by art historian Sylvan Bellenger, features mayor Alberto Ferrini, artistic director Vieri Panerai, and professors Fabrizio Lucchesi and Marco Cavallini. Bellenger commended the initiative for bridging history and modernity through art. Castelnuovo's rich past encompasses Neolithic, Etruscan, and medieval influences, becoming a marquisate in 1639 before joining the Podesteria minore di Montecastelli.
