Padova workshop explores moving images from precinema to VR
A week-long workshop titled 'L’occhio tagliato. Il potere della manipolazione dell’immagine nell’era contemporanea' will take place in Padova from November 20 to 26, 2016. Organized by artists and researchers Valerio Veneruso and Martina Melilli, the event is part of the broader Excinema project within the Arti Visive section curated by Caterina Benvegnù. The workshop will cover the history of moving images, from early precinema experiments to contemporary virtual reality and digital immersive experiences. Participants will view materials, discuss theoretical texts and case studies, and produce their own work. A public conference on November 20 will feature critic and curator Valentina Tanni (former Artribune editor) moderated by Stefano Coletto, and multimedia artist Giovanni Brunetto will join one workshop day. Eight participants will be selected via an open call ending October 31, with a registration fee of €75. Excinema aims to revitalize underused small art-house cinemas in Padova, including Excelsior, Lux, Esperia, and Rex.
