Pace Gallery expands London footprint with new 800 sqm Hanover Square location

Pace Gallery will open an 800 square metre London venue at 4 Hanover Square in autumn 2021, taking over spaces previously occupied by Blain Southern gallery. The New York-headquartered gallery, led by president and CEO Marc Glimcher, is expanding despite Brexit uncertainty, with Glimcher expressing faith in London's cultural and economic future. Jamie Fobert Architects will renovate the building to create flexible gallery spaces, including two first-floor galleries and a 100 sqm basement public gallery. This marks Pace's third London location, following its 2011 opening on Lexington Street and 2012 move to 6 Burlington Gardens within the Royal Academy complex. The gallery plans to use the expanded platform to engage more European artists and stage its first 'Pace Live' event outside New York in 2021. Recent additions to Pace's contemporary program include Sonia Gomes, Torkwase Dyson, Beatriz Milhazes, and Trevor Paglen. The gallery has existing locations in the US, Hong Kong, Korea, and Switzerland. Blain Southern closed at the Hanover Square site in February after going into administration.
