Pace Gallery Closes Hong Kong Space as Evelyn Lin Returns to Sotheby's Asia Leadership

market-auction · 2026-04-19

Pace Gallery is set to shut down its Hong Kong location at H Queen's by the end of this month, though it will keep offices in Hong Kong and Beijing and might explore new venues. Evelyn Lin, who has been leading Pace in Greater China since October 2024, is returning to Sotheby's as the chairman for modern and contemporary art in Asia, starting November 3. She has an extensive background with Sotheby's, having directed the contemporary Asian art division from 2004 to 2017, and also spent time at Christie's before her brief tenure at Pace. The final exhibit in Hong Kong will showcase Alejandro Piñeiro Bello. Lin told Artnet that her experience will enhance artist-collector dynamics. Elaine Holt, her predecessor at Sotheby's, departed in July.
