PAC Milano Reflects on Via Palestro Massacre with 'Dance Me To The End Of Love'
The PAC (Padiglione d'Arte Contemporanea) in Milan presents 'Dance Me To The End Of Love', a group exhibition curated by Marco Bova and Simona Zecchi that examines the 1993 Via Palestro bombing. On July 27, 1993, a car bomb killed five people and severely damaged the PAC. The show features works by Yael Bartana, Maurizio Cattelan, Douglas Gordon, Miguel Gomes, Christian Boltanski, Clemencia Echeverri, Maja Bajevic, Giulio Squillacciotti, Ottonella Moccellin, and Nicola Pellegrini. Bartana's 'Balka Germania' greets visitors with an androgynous queen on a donkey in Berlin. Gordon's infinite projection traces a journey from Berlin to Warsaw, reversing his family's 1939 escape from occupied Poland. Echeverri's video installation presents a funeral chant with projections of the Cauca River. Moccellin and Pellegrini revive their 2003 work 'Così lontano, così vicino' on collective versus individual memory. Bajevic's 'Green Green Grass from Home' (2002) reflects on her grandparents' house destroyed in the Yugoslav war. Boltanski's 'Entre-Temps', previously shown at PAC in 2005, is reinstalled. Cattelan contributes two 1994 ready-mades: knotted handkerchiefs as a universal elegy and 'Souvenir di Milano', a toy camera showing images of the destroyed PAC. The exhibition runs from September 2023 at PAC, Milan.
