Pablo Sanchez Lopez Revamps Walthamstow Victorian House with Eucalyptus and Stone

In Walthamstow, London, architect Pablo Sanchez Lopez transformed a Victorian terraced house, removing an outdated 1970s renovation. By repositioning the staircase along the party wall and incorporating a timber-framed side extension, the previously dim interior now features a bright, interconnected series of spaces. The design incorporates eco-friendly Red Grandis eucalyptus and Ceppo di Gré stone. A central kitchen hearth establishes a domestic rhythm, allowing living areas to be pushed outward for enhanced natural light. A full-height, heavy curtain at the entrance serves as a versatile 'soft hallway' for privacy. The old uPVC porch was replaced with a modern timber design, while Ceppo di Gré terrazzo extends across the ground floor and bathroom walls. The building also underwent a thorough retrofit, enhancing thermal efficiency with extensive internal insulation, and the upper floor was reconfigured to remove narrow hallways. A sizable pivot door at the rear links the kitchen to the garden.
