Pablo Echaurren's 'Controfumetto' Exhibition in Cremona
A small exhibition at Palazzo Fodri in Cremona, open until July 10, 2022, showcases Pablo Echaurren's graphic novel precursors from the 1970s to the 1990s. Curated by Carlotta Vacchelli in collaboration with the Max Planck Institute for Art History – Bibliotheca Hertziana, Fondazione Echaurren Salaris, Centro Fumetto “Andrea Pazienza”, Porte Aperte Festival, and the Municipality of Cremona, the show presents two rooms of Echaurren's work. The artist, born in Rome in 1951, uses irony to challenge bourgeois art and conventional comics, drawing on the legacy of Marinetti, Boccioni, Carrà, Picasso, and Mondrian. His pieces, published in magazines like Zut and Frigidaire, aim to break conformism and liberate comics. Techniques include collage, with a section paying tribute to Futurism. One story is titled 'Terremoto Picasso'.
