Ozmo Unveils Mural Dedicated to Danilo Dolci in Rome

On October 9, 2023, Italian artist Ozmo unveiled a large-scale mural titled 'Sophia' on the walls of the IIS Enzo Ferrari school in the Lamaro suburb of Rome. The work marks the ninth edition of Restart, an anti-mafia creativity and rights festival curated by the association daSud. The mural depicts Sophia, the Greek goddess of wisdom, holding a book and surrounded by symbolic elements such as a sphere and a mouse cursor. It incorporates the final verse of a poem by Danilo Dolci, a sociologist and activist who fought against the mafia in Sicily from the 1950s to the 1970s. Ozmo, known for his urban murals that reinterpret classical and art historical imagery, has created works such as 'Minerva' (2016) in Breno, 'Ratto delle Sabine' (2019) in Rieti, and a version of Rubens' 'San Sebastiano' in Paris. The mural blends traditional painting with digital motifs, including pixelation and a cursor icon, to address contemporary themes of education and social justice.
