Ozmo Creates First Mural on an Italian Courthouse in Rieti

Street artist Ozmo (Gionata Gesi) has painted the first mural ever on the facade of an Italian courthouse, located in Rieti. The work, titled 'Al suono delle trombe' (To the Sound of Trumpets), adorns the Palazzo di Giustizia on Piazza Bachelet. It was created as part of the project 'Trame – Tracce di memoria' (Wefts – Traces of Memory), conceived by creative agency The UncommonFactory and funded by a regional call from Lazio with European development funds. Curator Annalisa Ferraro selected Ozmo for the initiative, which invites artists to engage with local historical and artistic heritage. The mural combines two key Rieti treasures: the 'Giudizio Universale' fresco by the Torresani brothers in the Oratorio di San Pietro Martire, and Giambologna's 16th-century 'Ratto delle Sabine' sculpture in Florence's Loggia dei Lanzi. Ozmo's composition features a serpentine of figures in ascending motion, simulating marble statuary while conveying drama through immaterial painting. Trumpets and judgment scenes from the fresco appear in the background, stripped of color. The mural addresses themes of justice, violence, and moral responsibility, linking pagan myth, biblical scripture, and contemporary crime. Ozmo, born in Pontedera in 1975 and based in Paris, is known for his iconographic and intellectual mixes, moving between museums, social centers, and metropolitan facades.
