Overnight Russia-Ukraine Strikes Kill 7, Injure Dozens

In a recent surge of violence, Russia and Ukraine conducted overnight attacks that led to the deaths of seven civilians and left many injured on both sides. Ukrainian drones targeted Russia's Belgorod border region, resulting in five fatalities and injuring around 24 individuals, including a four-year-old boy, as reported by local authorities. Meanwhile, in Kharkiv, Ukraine's second-largest city, Russian missile strikes hit an apartment building in the Saltivskyi district, claiming two lives and injuring 13, according to regional leader Oleh Syniehubov. Additionally, Odesa, a Black Sea port city, saw eight injuries after missile and drone strikes affected the area, as noted by local head Oleh Kiper. These assaults highlight Russia's ongoing missile campaign against Ukrainian cities, taking advantage of Ukraine's significant shortage of US-made Patriot interceptors, the sole air defense capable of neutralizing ballistic missiles. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has been urging other nations, particularly the US, for more Patriot systems, which are increasingly limited due to the conflict with Iran, emphasizing their importance for civilian protection. If this fails, Zelensky aims to manufacture Patriot ammunition domestically or secure Elon Musk's consent to utilize Starlink satellite communications for targeting missile launchers in Russia.
