Over 300 Etruscan artifacts from Bologna to tour China

exhibition · 2026-04-27

The exhibition 'ETRUSCHI. Signori dell’Italia antica' (ETRUSCANS. Lords of ancient Italy) will bring over 300 artifacts from Bologna's Museo Civico Archeologico to China, organized by MondoMostre and promoted by the Italian Cultural Institute of Shanghai with the Consulate General of Italy in Shanghai. The show is part of the 'Italy-China Year of Culture and Tourism 2022' and will run at the Wuhzong Museum in Suzhou from August 25 to November 25, 2022, then in Chengdu from December 2022 to March 2023. It includes 27 works from the Museo Archeologico Nazionale di Napoli, all first-time exhibits in China. The exhibition is divided into five thematic sections covering Etruscan political history, social and economic dynamics, daily life, writing, religious cults, and funerary rituals. A highlight is a copy of the Certosa situla by Stefano Buson, a delicate bronze vessel depicting a community narrative from the late 7th to early 6th century BCE. Other notable pieces include bronze statuettes from Monteacuto Ragazza, the engraved bronze mirror 'patera cospiana' (4th century BCE) showing Athena's birth from Tinia's head, gold jewelry, an Attic crater from the Arnoaldi tomb 78, a funerary lion statue from the Giardini Margherita necropolis, and two alabaster cinerary urns from the University Collection (3rd century BCE).
